About Us

Haven's aim is to provide a supportive and encouraging environment, where opportunities are offered to challenge and inspire children and adults through learning that is accessible, meaningful and fun.

• Haven Early Years Centre opened in 1997 on the site of the former Bedenham Infants School.  It was designated a 'full core' Sure Start Children's Centre in 2004.  The Centre has grown dramatically and is a vibrant, thriving venue at the heart of the local community.

• Haven is 'not for profit', and all income received goes towards meeting the running costs or is invested in improvements to resources and the environment.

• We are very fortunate to have large, mature garden areas accessible from all parts of the Centre.  We encourage all Centre users, and the children in particular, to explore the outdoor environment.

• The fully inclusive nursery school provides 140 part-time places for children aged three to five in 'The Hive'.  The Government currently funds 15 hours per week (during school term time) of nursery education for children from the term after their 3rd birthday.  Additional (chargeable) hours are available to provide full daycare options for parents/carers from 7.45am - 6pm Monday to Friday  51 weeks a year  

• 'The Nest' is a 28 place setting providing full childcare for children aged 6 months - 3 years.  The Nest is open from 7.45am - 6pm Monday to Friday 51 weeks a year offering a safe, friendly and stimulating environment for your child to thrive.

• The Children's Centre provides a variety of courses and drop-in support groups for parents, carers, their families and others living in the community. The monthly activity programme is available on our Home page.  Other professionals and specialists including those related to family support, healthcare and portage provision are based at the centre.

• A new kitchen facility was installed in 2010 following extensive alteration works.  All food for both Nursery children and Centre users is freshly prepared and cooked on site.  We were pleased to have been awarded the highest possible grading by Gosport Borough Council as part of the National Food Hygiene Rating System in June 2010 .  A further inspection in December 2011 has seen our kitchen once again achieve the highest possible hygiene rating.

• 

• We currently operate a 3 week menu for the children - Week 1 - Week 2 - Week 3.

• Due to the rapid growth and success of the Centre, in 2008 a large purpose built extension was added to the Nursery School offering a greatly improved environment and enhanced learning opportunties for the children.

• In 2010, we made significant improvements to our Main Entrance and Reception area.  This allows much easier access and improved communication with our staff for all users.  The work also further enhanced safety measures in respect of the children's safety.

• 2010-11 Annual Report to Parents now available

• Haven Herald Autumn 2011 termly newsletter now available

• Privacy/data processing notice for children receiving childcare now available

• A CCTV system has recently been installed at the Centre.  The images are monitored and recorded for the purposes of safety, security, crime prevention and child safeguarding.  The Centre has a CCTV Code of Conduct.

• We are constantly seeking to improve the experience for all Centre users and value all feedback.  Please don't hesitate to speak to a member of Centre staff or to phone or email us.  A 'Comments Book' is also available in the Centre.
